YANN MARITAUD

  • Yann shot his first film at the age of 8 staging his Playmobil’s adventures in stop-motion with the family’s old Hi8 camera. Undeniable success to his parents and grandparents, this first experience led him to spend all his free time as a teenager with a camera in his hands. After studying audiovisual & cinema, he began as a gaffer on sets. As years passed, he dedicated his career to narrative films, shooting more than fifty shorts, including "Maman(s)" by Maïmouna Doucouré who won the Cesar for Best Short Film award 2017.

For his first steps in feature films, he was honoured to work as co-cinematographer with Tom Stern (Asc, Afc) on "Cessez-le-feu" by Emmanuel Courcol. Since then, he assisted many directors on their first feature as Maïmouna Doucouré with "Mignonnes" (Sundance 2020, Berlin 2020), Charlène Favier with "Slalom" (Cannes 2020, nominated at Cesars 2021) or Anissa Bonnefont with « La Maison ».

He like to switch from deep stories like the recent « The Land Within » by Fisnik Maxville, to (smart) comedies, as shooting « Terrible Jungle » with Hugo Benamozig and David Caviglioli, a jungle journey with Catherine Deneuve or the announced « Zenithal » crazy first feature by Jean-Baptiste Saurel.

Accustomed to shooting in all conditions and all over the planet , Yann is more than ever concerned about militant, ecologist and feminist projects. Passionate about the underwater world, he is also certified in underwater cinematography.
